Sometimes I run across interesting tidbits of information about Souvenir Spoon Collecting that I think may interest my visitors. From Time to time, I will include these little gems of wisdom here. There may also be stories of how I came to own a particular item as well, like this first story:

FULL FIGURAL (front and back) WEBFOOT FROG W UMBRELLA HANDLE, "Mt Hood OREGON" bright cut needle etched scene in bowl, Marked (H in a flag) STERLING (Mechanics Sterling circa 1880 a subsidiary of WATSON NEWELL) approx 4 3/4"

    Estate Sale Find

Three and one-half years ago, a gentleman in Spokane Wahington had a group of souvenir spoons for sale. He said they were from his Great-Aunts estate. The pictures he displayed were dark and shadowy and the spoons were all ajumble. It was obvious that there were quite a few spoons (he claimed there were 29 spoons and that 25 were sterling!) and that they were all very badly tarnished, nearly solid black. From the pictures of the spoons, I was able to discern very little to clue me as to the actual value. Studying the pictures carefully though, I saw part of what looked to me like it could have been one of the "famous" Webfoot spoons. I decided to take a chance and purchase his lot. I paid $41 for the entire lot, including shipping and hancling charges. Wow, what a deal that was! There was indeed a Webfoot spoon, in fact there were two different Webfoot spoons.
Among the other spoons were many nice sterling souvenir spoons, several of which are worth more individually than I paid for the entire batch! One of the webfoot spoons sold for a profit of $113.55 and the other one sold for a profit of $131.05 So on just those two spoons, I was able to make a profit of about $200!
